Labor Day Weekend Events in Austin Texas

Labor Day is the first Monday in September and has been a holiday since 1894. Labor Day marks the end of summer and is a day for rest before work and school begin.


UT Football Season Starts:

Buy tickets for the Texas Longhorns 2008 Football Season Opener on Saturday, August 30 against Florida Atlantic.


The Austin Batfest:

The 4th Annual Batfest begins Saturday, August 30 from 2pm until midnight and Sunday the 31 from 2pm to 10pm. Watch the Mexican Free Tail Bats fly under the Ann Richards Bridge (Congress Avenue). With Arts, Crafts, Food, Bat Watching, Children's Activities, Educational Displays, a Bat Costume Contest and 30 bands on two stages for only $5.


Labor Day Cup:

Register for the 7th Annual Labor Day Cup Soccer Competition from August 30 thru September 1.


Splash Days:

Splash Days is a celebration for the gay community in Austin. Saturday, August 30 is the Splashdance with DJ Roland Belmares from 10pm to 3am at the Monarch Event Center. Tickets ar $35 or $40 at the door. Ages 18+. The Adult Swim with DJ Seth Cooper from Austin follows the Splashdance. Event starts at 3am at Sky Lounge. Tickets are $15 or $20 at the door. Ages 18+. Sunday night from 10pm to 4am is High Tide at Sky Lounge. Tickets are $25 or $30 at the door. Ages 21+.


The Austin Triathlon:

Auditorium Shores is the location of The Austin Triathlon on September 1, 2008. Live music, squirt guns, carnival, free massages, art, free food, beer and icecream and tech t-shirts, hats and goodies will be available. Austin triathlete Shawn Colvin will be participating and singing the National Anthem. Radio Retro Band will be performing at the finish line, MoPac and the Blue Suburbans and Woode Wood will be playing on the course. Register and pay a fee of $99 for The Austin Triathlon and $89 for The Austin Sprint Triathlon.


Free Day of Yoga:

Free Yoga at participating locations and parks on September 1 with morning, afternoon and evening classes. Bring your own towel, blanket or yoga mat.
